The most distinctive hotel in Las Vegas
is the Luxor. It is watched over by a
10 story high Sphinx. The hotel, built in 1993, is a 350-feet high pyramid.
At its summit can be found a light beam that sends every evening a 10 mile long ray into the heavens. It is said that this light beam can be
seen from space.
In the interior of the hotel the walls are decorated with hieroglyphics, the
floors fitted with deep red carpets and everywhere sit stone pharaohs,
flanked by majestic lions. The rooms in the sloped walls of the pyramid are
reached via "Inclinators" - elevators that move in conformity with the
39-degree angles of the pyramid's sides.
Among the many attractions of the Luxor are counted King Tut's Tomb and
Museum, which presents a copy of the pharaoh's tomb. After the visitors have
passed through the anteroom into the treasure and grave chamber, there can
be seen replicas of Egyptian mummies, chariots, furniture, and jewellery.
Worthy of mention also is the Luxor IMAX Theater, which was the first of its
type to be built in Las Vegas. Guests can watch here on daily basis 2 - and
3-D IMAX film productions, on a 7 story screen. Recently the first ever
animated 3D movie was shown in the IMAX Luxor. |
