The Venetian can be counted among the
most spectacular and biggest hotel complexes
in Las Vegas. It is an amazingly exact copy of the resplendence and beauty
of Venice. Many well-known Italian landmarks such as St. Mark’s Square, the
Doge’s Palace, the Rialto Bridge and the 300-feet high Campanile are
included among the true-to-the-original replicas.
Of course not to be missed is the Grand Canal. Gondolas bring guests daily
from one riverbank to the other. Here the singers, mainly themselves Italian
gondoliers, are just as authentic as the wooden gondolas themselves. Right
down to Venice’s often musty smell, nothing here is amiss, even the security
personnel wear the uniforms of the Venetian police.
The $1.5 billion luxury hotel leaves out nothing. Marble arches, mosaics,
tiles and replicas of well-known Venetian artworks as well as statues,
accurate right down to every detail, can be seen here.
Other attractions of the "Second Venice" are copies of the famous London wax
museum Madame Tussaud's and the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum. This
freestanding museum was designed by the prize-winning architect and
professor of design Rem Kolhaas, and opened in 2001. Here can be seen works
by famous artists from the collections of the Guggenheim and the Hermitage
in Russia. |
